Diak - Oulu unit
The origin of the degree
programme in diaconal nursing goes back to 1896, when the first nurses
were trained in The Diaconal Institution of Oulu (Oulun Diakonissalaitos).
Degree programmes in clinical and diaconal nursing were united with
Diaconia University of Applied Sciences in the year 2000. Nowadays
Diaconal institution offers vocational training in its institute and
Diaconia polytechnic takes care of higher education.
At the moment,
Oulu unit of Diaconia University of Applied Sciences offers versatile
degree programmes in diaconia, social work and nursing and courses in
updating education. The unit has a central role in educating parish
diaconia workers particularly for parishes in North-Finland. We have
annually ca. 200 students in our degree programmes and 170 students in
courses of updating education. |
It is distinctive for Oulu unit that it has to cover a very wide and
diverse geographical area, which includes half of Finland’s territory.
Partners in working life extend from growing population centres to rural
parishes in Lapland.
All connections to international diaconia
fields offered by the network of Diaconia University of Applied Sciences
are utilized in the students’ exchange programmes. If you are interested
